Citrix Receiver Clean-Up Utility

Citrix is an awesome product, but if you have administered it for any significant period of time, you know how challenging the Receiver can be at times. Not all of the issues are on Citrix’s side of the fence–many times the trouble is browser-specific if using it to connect to the web interface. Nevertheless, it is not too uncommon to find yourself uninstalling the Receiver and downloading a newer version.

Well if you find yourself in a situation where the removal process either gives you trouble or does not completely remove the lingering files and you need a way to accomplish a true “full” removal, have a look at the Citrix Receiver Clean-Up Utility found detailed in Citrix article CTX137494. This is a utility that was made available by Citrix themselves and I can say it has helped me out in several instances.

As a supplement, you might also want to have a look at CTX325140 – How to Remove Client Files Remaining on System after Uninstalling Receiver for Windows. This details how attempting to uninstall the Citrix Receiver through the Windows Control Panel leaves some files and registry files behind. It then details a manual process by which you can go through and purge the system of these leftover files. Of course, using the Clean-Up Utility is much simpler and is designed to automate the manual process, but for those interested in knowing what it is actually doing in the background, have a look at the CTX325140 article mentioned in this paragraph.

Enjoy!
